GYM: PE with Ms. V!

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Since we are all learning how to use SeeSaw today, I thought it would be a good idea to relax and take some time for ourselves today. We will be doing Yoga today to relax our bodies and minds, focus on our breathing and be mindful with ourselves. You may choose to do one of the following activities:

Yoga in the Hive

Cosmic Kids Yoga – Kickapoo the Kangaroo

HOMEWORK: Think of an activity that you would like to master while learning from home. It must be something involving physical fitness. We will work on these goals throughout the next couple of weeks. I will be asking for responses throughout the week.

Examples:
  • Dribble a soccer ball
  • Jump rope
  • Do a cartwheel
  • Balance on one foot for 30 seconds

Have a great day!!

DAY 5: You have a music activity so please make sure you read my entire blog post to see it! Zoom meeting is again at 2pm. Great job logging right back in yesterday!!

HAPPY FRIDAY GRADE 3s!!!
Yay we made it to the end of the week!! You all have been doing so well I am so proud of all your hard work. Keep it up!

MATH: Today's lesson is on how to make predictions based on the number of outcomes, the probability of those outcomes and the number of trials. Here is my video lesson: https://youtu.be/DpdPaDvkkSI
Please follow along with the lesson and pause the video as I'm teaching to practice the examples.

Here are the steps: (I've provided a picture example)
1) Divide the number of outcomes by the number of spins/trials
2)  Multiply the quotient by the outcome's numerator you are making the prediction for.

There are two worksheets to complete for homework. Remember to use the method learned today to make your predictions.

LANGUAGE: The focus of our lesson today is adding suffixes to verbs! Watch the video to find out the challenge: https://youtu.be/QVLN9ZjMAVc
Here is an additional video if you need a reminder what each suffix means: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=635oQTY61J8

Remember you have only three minutes to write down as many verbs as you can think off and then add all the different suffixes to those verbs.

UOI: Our goal is to learn about soil texture and structure! Here is the link to today's lesson: https://youtu.be/m6-V_DG_tBI

Don't forget to post your worksheet on Seesaw!

FRENCH: Here is your french lesson: https://youtu.be/gMBez1VbRtI

Learning goal: Read and understand a text in French, identify silent sounds and the different parts of speech.

Success criteria: I can read and understand a text in French while paying attention to silent letters and identify the parts of speech.

The students read the attached text out loud twice.

-The students prepare a line paper with the date (Vendredi 27 mars 2020) and the title: Lecture.

-The students copy the text using a neat and clear handwriting, and make sure to skip a line to space their text lines.

-The student will now follow the instructions below:
- Souligner les lettres silencieuses (underline the silent letters).

- Entourer les sujets (circle the subject nouns).
- Utiliser une couleur differrente pour souligner les verbes (use a different colour to underline the verbs).
- Encadrer les adjectifs (draw a rectangle around the adjectives).

-Trouve la réponse à la question dans le texte et écrit la réponse (find the answer to the comprehension question in the text and write it down).

DAY 4: Zoom meeting will be at 2pm again today! If it times out just re-enter the meeting using the same password 😀

GOOD MORNING GOOD MORNING GOOD MORNING!

It's another day closer to the weekend!! You all have been doing a fantastic job at adding to your Seesaw accounts and using Knowledgehook. Super proud of how responsible everyone is being. I think you'll enjoy my math lesson today (there's a special guest)! Can't wait to see all you on Zoom later today 😀

MATH: Time for experiments!!!! Our lesson today is identifying fair and unfair spinners and how to conduct an experiment using a spinner. Here is a link to my video lesson: https://youtu.be/Z1ZdRpjywxA

For homework: You have three worksheets (one on fair/unfair spinners and 2 experiments) to complete and upload to Seesaw! I've also unlocked another previous unit for you on Knowledgehook!

LANGUAGE: We are continuing to practice using suffixes! Here is my lesson link: https://youtu.be/v0O2-uOTQ14

So for homework choose a row and write 5 sentences using the words from within that row. You can write one word per sentence (5 sentences in total) or take up the challenge and write a paragraph using the root word and the four different forms of the word within it.

Here is an addition video on suffixes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V__uO0p5fhs
And another one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_6mfwXe3Bo

UOI: Today our focus is on Nutrients in the Soil. There's three really important ones! Can anyone guess?
Here is the link to my lesson and explanation of today's activity: https://youtu.be/tvVMHMClZq4

Here is an additional video on nutrients:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBrhZKuG-HY
Here is a video on photosynthesis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPBMG5EYydo&t=155s

My example of today's task:
Make sure to colour it in!

FRENCH:

Learning goal: Develop listening skills in French and identify previously learned nouns and verbs.

Success criteria: I can listen to a French narration and identify words I know.

-       Students will watch the linked video below two to three times (more or less if needed):

-       While listening they should focus on pronunciation and vocabulary: try to identify the words that they already know or learned in the previous days of this week and write them down on a notepad, white board or a sheet of paper.

-       Now students will need to make a table with at least 6 boxes, in each they should write one of the words that they noted down while watching the video and draw what it represents (words can be nouns or verbs).

Note to students: make sure to properly and neatly present your work on the sheet (date, title…).

Here’s an example: (some of the words aren’t necessarily related to the video)

DAY 3: Zoom catch up chat is at 2pm again! Can't wait to see you there!

Hello my little minions!!!!!!

Hope you are all doing well 😀 Since today is a day 3 you have a music activity! Make sure to try uploading your homework to Seesaw today, I sent all the codes yesterday! Uploading it there makes it easy for me to give you feedback faster.

MATH: Your math lesson today is on exploring predictions. I filmed this lesson in two parts and found an additional video as an extra resource.
Part 1: https://youtu.be/py041DBGnbE
Part 2: https://youtu.be/8jnr8keDF80
Additional Resource: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzfWUEJjG18
(In the video there are percentages--- once again do not worry about that, we do not learn that in Grade 3)

For your homework you will need dice (you really only need one to complete the investigation)! There are three worksheets for today's homework, I go over some of the questions in my videos so make sure to follow along!

Also, I unlocked some more on Knowledgehook for you!

LANGUAGE: We are continuing our lesson from yesterday on SUFFIXES! Here is a link to my YouTube lesson: https://youtu.be/OuiFgZYSiuc

Here are all the pictures of the rules:

I have sent the chart to your parents of the vowel and consonant suffixes for extra help with your two worksheets!

UOI: Here is today's lesson on what soil does that makes it so important! https://youtu.be/eYNXHkP1PNU

Please take your time with your writing and colouring! You have 2 worksheets to complete that require you to summarize the important information.

FRENCH:
Learning goal: Read and understand new vocabulary words and conjugate verbs correctly to match the subject.
Success criteria: I can read and understand new words and conjugate verbs correctly to match the subject.
-The students are provided with a sheet (print if possible and keep in the folder with the rest of your work) that contains more vocabulary related to the unit.
- The students read and try to define the words or find their equivalent in English.
- The students will complete a worksheet following the instructions on it (to be printed and completed and an answer key is provided but only to be shown to them after they have completed the worksheet on their own or at least tried their best).

MUSIC:
I was so happy to hear so many wonderful compositions about the importance of "staying home!" I heard  lovely singing, piano playing and lovely lyrics written.  Today in music class please listen to the example of a concerto.  A concerto is a piece of music where one or more instruments plays in front of an orchestra.  You will find this example on:
  1. Please click on the green arrow and listen to examples of a concerto including Bach's concerto.
  2. Please draw a picture or write a story that explains how the music makes you feel, or what it makes you think of.  Examples could include what instruments does the music make you think of (flute?  Violin?).
  3. When you are finished you play  musical games on the game section such as "Play note names" and
    compose your own music.
  4.  Next you may write rhythms which can include spring words to match the rhythm.  A fun way you can do this would be outside on your sidewalk with chalk!  Be creative and have fun!  Or inside on paper with markers or crayons.  For example "I love spring flowers" ta, ti ti , ta, ta" - quarter note, eighth note eighth note, quarter note, quarter note.
  5.  I will be recording a video for next class that you can sing along with at home.  If you have any requests for songs that you love that we sing in class please email them to me at amcmillan@stjudesacademy.com.  I will try to include the songs that you love to sing!

GYM: PE with Ms. V!

Hello everyone!

Today Ms. V has something very special for you to do for PE! I have created my very own workout video on YouTube for all of you to follow along with. Make sure you have your water bottle, maybe a yoga mat or blanket to kneel on for certain exercises. You can repeat this workout as many times as you'd like, but make sure you drink lots of water to replenish your body!

We will be working on our cardio, leg muscles, arm muscles and our core (tummy) muscles.
Are you ready!?!?

Click on the link: https://youtu.be/jaGPih5WR0M

AGENDA!!

Remember: First comment about what examples match which rules gets a house point when we get back!

DAY 2: Our Zoom meeting will be at 2pm today (This way you can all eat your lunches without worrying)!

GOOD MORNING MY MONKEYS!
I hope you are all doing well today 😁 Today is the first day you will be watching me teaching through YouTube video (I hope you enjoy them).

MATH: Today our lesson is on Identifying Outcomes and Predicting Results. Click this link to watch me teach the lesson: https://youtu.be/gZzwsbw7gvQ

For homework there are 3 worksheet pages: please see the email sent out this morning for the attachments. Please make sure you check knowledgehook for your first mission!

LANGUAGE: Our lesson will be on suffixes and when to double a consonant! Please watch the video of me teaching the concept: https://youtu.be/HDl_eHeuPZI

Here is the link to an additional resource for you to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmO1KoPY5aU

UOI: Our lesson today is focused on what is soil! Watch the video of me teaching today's UOI lesson: https://youtu.be/YwE7hOHksTg
Remember to highlight the important information on those 3 pages for homework today so you can complete tomorrow's activity.

Here is an additional video on "DIRT":  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=if29mjcd5bc

FRENCH: Here is a video from Mme. Rawan: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Flc_sh-FyCI
Learning goal: Conjugate new verbs and write complete sentences following correct sentence structure.
Success criteria: I can conjugate new verbs and use them correctly to write complete sentences following the correct sentence structure.

- Students review yesterday’s brainstorm mind map.
- On a lined sheet of paper, they write down the date, title and conjugate the following verbs: “Jardiner”, “Planter”, “Arroser” and “Cultiver”. (The students can do this independently).
- Once they have completed the conjugation, students will have to use these verbs correctly conjugated along with some new words from the brainstorm to write 7-10 sentences (more or less is up to the student to decide what they believe they can do).

Below are some example sentences:
1- Je jardine pendant le printemps.
2- Nous arrosons les fleurs chaque matin.
3- Ma maman plante des graines dans le jardin.
