Here is what we did today:

In-Class Spelling Bee: Great job everyone! Congratulations to Emily, Ali and Meekaal in my class for making it to the next round!

Reading: We read with a partner or individually. I went around to each student and asked them to read me a paragraph from the book they were reading.

Art's Night Practice: We practiced our choreography!

Student-Led Conferences: We practiced for our conferences this evening.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: Today we looked at 3-D Shapes, Prisms vs Pyramids and how to describe 3-D shapes. 3-D Shapes are solid objects that have three dimensions. These dimensions are length, width, and height. While 2D shapes are flat, 3D shapes objects that have depth to them. A soccer ball is a 3D shape, also known as a sphere, while a circle on a piece of paper is a 2D shape. We looked at some shape blocks and as a group decided if it was a prism or a pyramid based on what we learned was the difference. The differences are:

Pyramid:
  • 1 base
  • Triangular faces meet at one vertex
Prism
  • 2 congruent bases
  • Rectangular side faces

Then we learned how to describe those shapes by the number of edges, vertices and faces they have. We watched my fun videos about 3-D shapes and even learned a song. Here are the links:

We had time to work on our homework in class.

Recess/Lunch

UOI: Today we learned about the life cycle of a plant and the parts of a plant. We drew each stage and filled in the parts of a plant. We learned what every plant needs to grow!
