Recess/Lunch
Art's Night Rehearsal-- Please practice the dance moves we added in!
Math: Today we reviewed the parts of a 3D shape. We learned about the edges, faces and vertex. We explored different shapes with our table groups and worked on a math package describing 3D shapes.
We described the difference between a prism and a pyramid.
Recess/Lunch
UOI: We reviewed the different layers of soil and worked on our soil art.

JK to Grade 2 Art's Night
Here is some information on arts night tomorrow:
Tomorrow, Thursday May 17th, the choir
students need to bring their choir clothes with them or wear them in
the morning. They also need to wear these clothes for the evening
performance.
Choir students need to be dropped off
at the city church (2700 Argentia Road) tomorrow night at 6:15pm. The
show starts at 7:00. There will be no bussing in between the city church
and the school during the evening. They need to be dropped off directly
at the city church in the evening. They can be picked up when the show
finishes at 8:15.
There is also a performance at 1:30 tomorrow during the day. They will be bussed from the school to the city church.
We encourage all parents to come to the JK-2 arts night! It is a great show!
For our own performance on May 30th,
the students will be wearing pjs and oneies to look like babies! As we are singing about being babies. Please ensure that everyone is practicing the song at
home! It is coming up very quickly!
Wednesday May 16th, 2018
Here is what we did today.
Spelling Bee: Ruhaan came in first, Maxime came in second and Pranati came in third. Great work everyone!
Lunch/Recess
Choir Members: Went to The City Church to rehearse for Art's Night.
Gym: Please see Mr. B's blog for more information.
Math: To remember what we learned during yesterday's lesson, the students had partners and create riddles about quadrilaterals. They had so much fun creating riddles and asking others to solve them. Today they also learned about similar figures. This means that figures are the same shape but not the same size. They have been doubled in size so we multiply all of the sides by 2. They worked with partners to match up similar figures and then completed some textbook questions.
Lunch/Recess
Practice for Art's Night: My class took this opportunity to practice for our upcoming Art's Night performance.
Homework and Important Updates:
-Math Worksheet
-Study for Spelling Test tomorrow
-Read or RAZ Kids 25 minutes
-No school Friday or Monday

JK to Grade 2 Spelling Bee! Congratulations to all the winners!
Recess/Lunch
Art's Night Performance: JK to Grade 2-- Such a fantastic show!
Recess/Lunch
Math: Today we learned about the attributes of different quadrilaterals. We played a matching game to try and figure out what examples match the attributes. We even solved a few riddles. We loved the quick lesson today!

Here is what we did today:
Presentations: We completed the remaining presentations for our Forces UOI.
Agenda/ Morning Meeting
Gym: Please see Mr. Beresford's blog for more details.
Language: We started our new novel study. We are reading the famous novel, "The Secret Garden." The students are so excited to begin a new story adventure! They made so many connections to our last novel study book as well.
Recess/ Lunch
Math: Today we explored angles in quadrilaterals! We talked about how squares and rectangles have 4 equal angles, parallelograms and rhombuses have opposite equal angles and lastly all kites have 2 equal angles. To show that angles are equal you draw matching arcs. We did examples on the board and a few textbook questions for practice.
Recess/ Lunch
UOI: We completed our soil experiment! We drew out the last stage of the experiment. Today we also learned about the different layers of soil. We watched a video and discussed what is included in each layer. We started our rough copy of an art project for the different layers of soil.
Homework and Important Updates:
Parents are welcomed to watch the Spelling Bee on Wednesday in the auditorium at 9am!
Sorry my blog has been reporting an error every time I tried to post but it should be back to normal now!

Here is what we did today:
Spelling Bee: We had our in class competition! Congratulations to Sachi, Pranati, Amber and Maxime!
Surprise Activity!
Recess/Lunch
Math: We started working on angles. We went through it step by step on how to use a protractor. We also learned that a right angle is 90 degrees and that is the angle we use to compare against, less than a right angle or more than a right angle.
We did some work with our partners and practiced using them in the textbook.
Now everyone had their own protractor and practiced using them. here are some tips and things I told them.
Recess/Lunch
UOI: We did our soil experiment! We went outside and got soil in our jars. Next we put water in them and drew a picture of what it looks like now. Next we shook them and waited five minutes. Then we drew a picture of what it looks like now. On Monday we will look again and see what has changed!
Homework and Important Updates:

Now everyone had their own protractor and practiced using them. here are some tips and things I told them.
- Put a coloured dot on the corner they are measuring. This will help them to see where the cross inside the circle goes.
- If you can see the line of the angle through your protractor, then it is not lined up properly
- Look which way the angle is facing. If it is facing the right, then you look at the inside line. If the angle is facing left, you look at the outside line.
- If you are unsure if your answer is right, lightly draw a vertical line up from the corner to see if you are more than a right angle or less than a right angle
- Do your numbers match? If your angle is really bigger than a right angle and your number is 50 degrees... then you know you have gone wrong. Check again.

Here is what we did today:
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more information.
Agenda/ Morning Meetings
Gym: We did gym with Ms. Ross' class!
Recess/Lunch
Math: We did two easier math lessons today. First we talked about congruent figures. They remembered that congruent means same shape and same size; position doesn't matter. We also talked about using several congruent figures to create one larger shape. For example, using three congruent triangles to form a trapezoid.
Our second lesson was on recognizing quadrilaterals. We learned that a quadrilateral is a four sided shape. We talked about the use of hatch marks to tell us which sides of the shape are the same. These are small straight lines.
Next we talked about parallel lines. If two lines are parallel that means they can go on forever and never touch. We also use hatch marks to show parallel lines. These lines are arrows. Finally we talked about how some shapes can also be classified as another. For example, A square is rhombus because it has four equal sides and two pairs of parallel lines.
Recess/Lunch
UOI: We talked about photosynthesis! We watched a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D1Ymc311XS8&t=13s
Next we talked about what photosynthesis is and then we made a leaf in order to show what comes into the leaf and what goes out. It was such a fun craft!!
Homework and Important Updates:
*Read 25 minutes/Raz kids
*Presentations Monday
*Math worksheet
*Spelling bee May 11
