JK to Grade 2 Concert! Our class went to support our little friends.

UOI: Today we worked on a rough copy on a biography. We learned that a biography is a story of someone's life written by another person. Biographies are written in the THIRD PERSON. We are to use our creativity to create our own biography.

UOI: We started the lesson with reviewing the 5 main genre and the sub-genres. I was impressed to see that we really remember the genres. We completed our genres flip book! Inside the flip book there are the characteristics of each sub-genre.

Inquiry into Language: Today we learned about point of view and onomatopoeia! We watched these two videos that helped us understand the concepts really well.

Inquiry into Math: We started the lesson with a review on how to solve median, mode and range.

Today we learned about stem and leaf plot graphs. We loved this lesson! We started by collecting data. The students were asked to do as many jumping jacks as possible within one minute. We recorded all of our results on the board. Then we went into organizing that information. We learned that only numbers in the ones column go under the leaf section and numbers that are in the hundreds and thousands column go under the stem section. We practiced this together as a class and then we analyzed the graph! We did a page of homework together.

Inquiry into Language: Today we started our spelling lesson 13 and spelling sentences.

UOI: Today we did an introduction to our Tell Me a Story Unit! We did a giant word bubble all about writing! It was incredible to see what we related to writing. We also started to take a look into what are genres.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: Today we learned about Median, Range and Mode. Mode is the number that appears the most frequently in a set of data. Median is the middle number in a set of data. Range is the largest number in a set of data minus the smallest number.

To find Median:
Step one: Arrange all the numbers in order from least to greatest. Ensure you are recording the numbers accurately.
Step two: Remove one number from the beginning and one from the end of the set until you reach the middle number.
(If there are 2 middle numbers in the set of data you must add them together and then divide them by two) 

We practiced this together and then we worked independently of a worksheet.

IB Lesson: We focused on the IB Learner Profile of being a Communicator! We watched a read-aloud and discussed how to be a communicator. The students create little skits showing a positive and negative way of communicating during a situation.

Inquiry into Language: We did our Lesson 12 spelling test.

Silent Reading: We really wanted to read our new library books so we did some silent reading.

Inquiry into Math: Today we graphed the survey data we collected yesterday. They came out incredible! I was so proud of the Grade 3s for taking their time and ensuring all the elements were included.

Showcase: We visited Mr. Conte's class for their showcase!
