Tuesday February 4th, 2020

Here is what we did today:

Music: Please see Ms. McMillian's blog for more detail.

Inquiry into Language: Today we read chapters 13 to 17 in our novel study! WOW! They were so excited to learn that Clara was able to walk and we were very unhappy with Peter's behaviour. We had time to get the questions started for those chapters and whatever was not completed is for homework (due Thursday). We went over the expectations for responding to comprehension questions: full sentences (capital letters and punctuation), examples for the text and using part of question within their response.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: We focused on equivalent fractions! Equivalent fractions may look different, but they have the same value. You can make equivalent fractions by multiplying or dividing both top and bottom by the same amount. You only multiply or divide, never add or subtract, to get an equivalent fraction. Whatever you do to the top you do to the bottom!
For Example: to find equivalent fraction of we multiply both numerator and denominator by 2 then we get equivalent fraction.

French: Please see Mme. Rawan's blog for more detail.

Recess/Lunch

UOI: Today we continued to explore distance and speed! We filled in the blanks on our worksheets and brainstormed a list of vocabulary words for distance and speed. We came up with a long list!

We also learned about muscular force! We discussed how our muscles pull when we exercise. Muscular force both pushes and pulls objects and ourselves. To practice, the students had to come up with 4 exercises that are examples of how our bodies use muscular force and explain how they do so.

They presented their exercises to the class. Great real life applications!

Agenda!

Dear SJA Lower School (JK to Grade 6) Families,
An annual event in the Lower School is our highly anticipated Year-Ahead Day. Students look forward to this fun tradition at St. Jude’s Academy where they get to skip ahead and spend the day in the next grade. Teachers will let students know who their Year-Ahead Day teacher is at the end of day on Friday, February 7, 2020.
Please note that the placement for this day does not indicate class placement for the following school year.
Sincerely,
The SJA Lower School Team
