Here is what we did today:
Inquiry into Math: Today we started our lesson with a challenge! Most of the class was able to represent a fraction as a whole without any prompting!
We then learned about improper and mixed fractions.
Mixed Number Fraction contains both a whole number and a proper fraction. Example: 1½ (one and a half) An Improper Fraction is where the numerator (the top number) is greater than the denominator (the bottom number).
We
did many examples together and worked through the steps on how to
convert a mixed number fraction to an improper fraction. This took us quite some time and are slowly getting the
hang of it.
UOI: Today we learned
about GRAVITY! We
were testing which objects fell to the floor first. Each student had to
make their predictions based on their observations. Then, the students
observed as we dropped two objects at the same time from the
same height.

Inquiry into Language: Today we learned about context clues. This is a very important strategy for reading comprehension! This video helped us understand how to solve using context clues: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyK01USxdg0
We worked on two worksheet activities to practice this concept.
French: Please see Mme. Rawan's blog for more detail.

An
annual event in the Lower School is our highly anticipated Year-Ahead
Day. Students look forward to this fun tradition at St. Jude’s Academy
where they get to skip ahead and spend the day in the next grade. Teachers will let students know who their Year-Ahead Day teacher is at the end of day on Friday, February 7, 2020.
Please note that the placement for this day does not indicate class placement for the following school year.
Sincerely,
The SJA Lower School Team
