Wednesday December 11th, 2019

Here is what we did today:

Music: Please see Ms. McMillian's blog for more detail.

Inquiry into Math: Today we learned about Median, Range and Mode. Mode is the number that appears the most frequently in a set of data. Median is the middle number in a set of data. Range is the largest number in a set of data minus the smallest number.

To find the Median:
Step one: Arrange all the numbers in order from least to greatest. Ensure you are recording the numbers accurately.
Step two: Remove one number from the beginning and one from the end of the set until you reach the middle number.
(If there are 2 middle numbers in the set of data you must add them together and then divide them by two) ** PLEASE STRESS THE USE OF LONG DIVISION TO SOLVE THIS**

We practiced this together and then we worked independently of a worksheet.

The, we learned about stem and leaf plot graphs. We use this graph to arrange data points! We learned that only numbers in the ones column go under the leaf section and numbers that are in the hundreds and thousands column go under the stem section. We learned how to analyze this graph by interpreting the data points to answer questions related to the graph.

Recess/Lunch

Christmas Concert Rehearsal: Back at it again with Frozen!!!

UOI: We started our lesson with a question: What do we use maps for? We brainstormed ideas: for finding our way around, for looking for places to visit. Our lesson today was about population density! We defined it as how many people live in a certain area. We further defined sparse and densely populated areas as well. Here is a link to a video we watched to further help us: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bbs-gwmAuGw

Recess/Lunch

UOI: We continued our lesson with a deeper look into Ontario. We learned that Ontario is divided into 3 Landform Regions: Hudson Bay Lowlands, Canadian Shield and Great Lakes & St. Lawrence Lowlands. We labeled and coloured a map of Ontario.
