Here is what we did today:

Inquiry into Math: We learned how to read 4 types of graphs today-- Bar graphs, Pictographs, Double Bar graphs and Circle graphs. We started the lesson with an activity that compared a pictograph and a bar graph that were representing the same data. We learned that graphs can look different but display the same data. We took a look at each type of graph and pointed out some key features (we are going into further detail tomorrow):
- They always have a title
- They always are labeled
- A key (or legend) tells you important information
- The scale is determined by the data points.

Here is some important vocabulary we learned:

We learned about what are the axes, they are used to tell you what data is being displayed. We learned that pictographs use symbols to show data. A key shows what each symbol represents. The numbers on the axis show the scale. The range is the difference between the greatest value and the least value on the graph.

PICTOGRAPH: It uses symbols to represent data on a graph. The key will tell you what the symbols represent

(We reviewed the symbols used and how to identify what they represent)

BAR GRAPH: It uses bars to represent data on a graph.

DOUBLE BAR GRAPH: We know that a double bar graph is used to compare data that is similar. We did an example all together on the board. We took a look at all the key components. After, we looked at how to describe this graph and how to compare the data.

(I expressed how this was a quick example and for all graphs you should use a ruler to be neat)

CIRCLE GRAPH: It uses fractions to represent data on a graph. We took some time and reviewed what 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8 looked like and how to express an estimated fraction.

They completed worksheets independently and then moved on to their workbooks. If not completed it was sent home.

Student- Led Conference: We continued to work on our packages.

Christmas Concert: We had 2 rehearsals throughout the day. We worked today throughout the practices.
