Here is what we did today:

In-Class Spelling Bee: Great job everyone! Congratulations to Emily, Ali and Meekaal in my class for making it to the next round!

Reading: We read with a partner or individually. I went around to each student and asked them to read me a paragraph from the book they were reading.

Art's Night Practice: We practiced our choreography!

Student-Led Conferences: We practiced for our conferences this evening.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: Today we looked at 3-D Shapes, Prisms vs Pyramids and how to describe 3-D shapes. 3-D Shapes are solid objects that have three dimensions. These dimensions are length, width, and height. While 2D shapes are flat, 3D shapes objects that have depth to them. A soccer ball is a 3D shape, also known as a sphere, while a circle on a piece of paper is a 2D shape. We looked at some shape blocks and as a group decided if it was a prism or a pyramid based on what we learned was the difference. The differences are:

Pyramid:
  • 1 base
  • Triangular faces meet at one vertex
Prism
  • 2 congruent bases
  • Rectangular side faces

Then we learned how to describe those shapes by the number of edges, vertices and faces they have. We watched my fun videos about 3-D shapes and even learned a song. Here are the links:

We had time to work on our homework in class.

Recess/Lunch

UOI: Today we learned about the life cycle of a plant and the parts of a plant. We drew each stage and filled in the parts of a plant. We learned what every plant needs to grow!

Here is what we did today:

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com

Music: Please see Mrs. McMillan's blog for more detail. www.mrsmcmillanmusic.blogspot.com
UOI: We recorded our results for our soil experiment. We discussed our findings from this experiment.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Art: We completed our soil art! We watched a video to help solidify our understanding.
Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ysIm7ImsK6c

Inquiry into Math: Today we learned more about similar figures. Similar shapes are the same shape but different sizes. They have the same angles inside and have proportional sides. We explored how to solve for similar vs congruent figures.

Recess/Lunch
We had our ice-cream!!

Gym: Please see Ms. Yustin's blog for more detail.  http://sjaayustin.blogspot.com

Pie in the Face: Both Ms. Hocevar and Ms. Padovan got pied in the face!!!

Agenda!

Tuesday April 2nd, 2019

Here is what we did today:

Art's Night Dance Rehearsal: We worked with a choreographer on our dance!

Inquiry into Language: Today we learned about Homophones! Homophones are pairs of words that sound the same, but have distinctly different meanings and different spellings. We brainstormed examples on the board together and then worked on some worksheets.

Recess/Lunch

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com
Inquiry into Math: We continued our lesson on quadrilaterals and properties of quadrilaterals. We talked about the use of hatch marks to tell us which sides of the shape are the same. These are small straight lines. Next we talked about parallel lines. If two lines are parallel that means they can go on forever and never touch. These lines are arrows. Finally we talked about how some shapes can also be classified as another. For example, A square is rhombus because it has four equal sides and two pairs of parallel lines.
We also explored angles in quadrilaterals! We talked about how squares and rectangles have 4 equal angles, parallelograms and rhombuses have opposite equal angles and lastly all kites have 2 equal angles. To show that angles are equal you draw matching arcs.

We went through 6 different quadrilaterals and explored each one in detail. We also watched some videos to help us better understand and remember the attributes.

Recess/Lunch

UOI: We learned about the 5 layers of soils. We learned about what was in each layer as well. This was to assist us with our art activity tomorrow!

Pie in the face: Poor Ms. Gandy got the pie today! I'm safe for another day!!!!
