Here is what we did today:

Morning Meeting/Agendas

Gym: Please see Mr. Beresford's blog for more information.

Language: Today we did our Lesson 17 Spelling Test.

Recess/Lunch

Math: Today we continued to practice making change. We did some examples together. I noticed that they were having trouble with the cents. As a result, we worked on that. I told them that the cents from the item and the cents to the next dollar need to equal hundred. We talked about whole dollar is like a whole circle and if there are parts added to it then its not whole anymore. This is like a whole dollar. We also started using a money hundreds chart to help them figure out the cents. They are to count down in tens and then count to the next dollar. We did many examples and then they worked on their own.

Music: Please see Mr. Oliver's blog for more information.

Recess/Lunch

UOI: We used google earth and traveled the world. We looked at different communities all over the world. From Mississauga to my home town in Italy to Poland and India. We looked at google earth to see different areas and get examples of urban, rural and suburban communities. First we looked at the GTA and saw the differences. We noticed that suburban communities have a lot of houses close together with some green space. Urban communities have a lot of buildings close together and no green space. Rural communities have lots of land and space. We also talked about how not all urban, rural and suburban communities look the same. They had so much fun! We finished off the period doing a worksheet explaining their understanding of urban, rural and suburban communities. Those people that didn't finish have it for homework.
