Here is what we did today:

Inquiry into Language: Today we continued to read "Little House in the Big Woods." We all took turns reading parts of the story about Christmas! We loved this chapter, comparing it to modern day celebrations.

Inquiry into Math: We started the lesson with a review of friendly numbers and adding on for addition. We used our white boards and did a couple examples of both together

We then moved on to mental math for subtraction. There are two methods: Friendly Numbers and Counting On.

Friendly numbers for subtract:
Step 1: Look at the numbers (TIP: which number has a zero in tens?)
Step 2: Break that friendly number apart
Step 3: Subtract the hundreds first!
Step 4: Take your answer from step three and subtract the ones!

Counting On:You start with the smaller number and you need to add up the hundreds, tens and ones to make it match the bigger number!

Recess/Lunch

UOI: We watched two videos on the relationships between the Indigenous peoples and the Early Settlers. We discussed whether these were positive and if all interactions were positive.

We then read "Honouring the Buffalo." We discussed the importance of the Buffalo to the individuals in the 1800s and how the Indigenous People gave thanks to the Buffalo through ceremonies. It is a beautiful read if you get the chance to find this book.

We worked on the worksheets that compliment these stories.
