Here is what we did today:

Inquiry into Language: We continued to read Chapter 3 of our novel study, "Little House in the Big Woods." We discussed the differences and challenges the families faced when getting food. We loved the short story of Pa and the owl!

I noticed during our activities for Chapter 1 and 2 we struggled with the dictionaries. So, today we did some dictionary activities. We learned the words at the top are called guide words. They represent the first and last word on the page. We use these to help us find our words. We did a couple of examples together.

Then, we went word hunting through the dictionary. We had to write the page number it was found on, and the guide words. We had a lot of fun with this activity.

Inquiry into Math: We continued with our lesson on estimation! We talked about "The Better Way" to estimate. This method uses Front End estimation and Rounding. We use Front End for our 100s and rounding for our 10s. For example: 296 + 324 ---> lets look at the hundreds first and use front end estimation so 200 + 300= 500 leaving us with the tens. 96 rounds to 100 and 24 rounds to 20. Add those together to get 120. THEN add 500 + 120 = 620!! That's how you do the better way!!!

UOI: We reviewed the letters we read over the week and made some comparisons to our daily lives and the lives of the First Nation children. By the time we finished our discusion it was time for French so I explained their reflection questions. Each section should have 2-3 points written in them.

French: Please see Mme. Rawan's blog for more detail.
