Here is what we did today:

UOI: Today we discussed the reasons why families would want to travel to Upper Canada. We brainstormed as a class what would be some push factors and how difficult the journey was to Upper Canada. We each took turns reading a part of Patrick's letter, a boy from Ireland who described the hardships him and his family had during their journey to Upper Canada. It gave us a new perspective on how times have changed and how difficult traveling was. We completed a voyage activity by completing a boat with 6 sails. Each sail described a different sense from the perspective of an individual in the 1800s. They came out amazing!!

Inquiry into Language: We had a special treat today having Ms. Hayward come into our class to teach us how to research! We wanted to learn more about Laura Ingalls Wilder and had so many wonder questions. Ms. Hayward taught us how to properly search on google and how to look for good sources. We had a lot of fun exploring on the Chromebooks. They worked on a worksheet in their Novel Study duo tang and if not completed, it was sent for homework.

Math: Our lesson today was on Rounding!! We had a lot of difficulty remembering from last year so we only focused on rounding to the nearest tens. We began by looking at what it means when we round to the nearest 10 by identifying the two tens our number falls between. (Ex. the number 37 falls between 30 and 40). We also looked at place value when rounding. When rounding to the nearest ten underline the number in the tens column to remind us of the place value we are looking at. (Ex. 34 -- 34) Now look at the number in the ones column and ask yourself "I am rounding up or rounding down?" **Use the rounding roller coaster to help and draw an arrow to remind us if it up or down** Once that is determined then if you can round it! (Ex. 34 --> 30) Remember that if a digit is infront of your underlined digit you do not need to change it! We did many examples together and will continue tomorrow with rounding to the nearest 100s and 1000s.
