Monday February 11th, 2019

Inquiry into Language: We worked on Lesson 20 in our workbook and our spelling sentences. We did some silent reading. We started learning about narratives! Here are the videos we watched:

UOI: We used Google Earth and traveled the world. We looked at different communities all over the world. From Mississauga to my home town in Italy. We looked at Google Earth to see different areas and get examples of urban, rural and suburban communities. First we looked at the GTA and saw the differences. We noticed that suburban communities have a lot of houses close together with some green space. Urban communities have a lot of buildings close together and no green space. Rural communities have lots of land and space. We also talked about how not all urban, rural and suburban communities look the same. They had so much fun!

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: Today we continued to practice elapsed time. Since this concept is a tough one we really spent a lot of time practicing it today. We did a theme park activity, the students had to create a schedule of the day that fits within the hours of operation of the park. The had to have 4 to 5 activities and always include 10 minutes of walking time. This allowed us to explore and practice using elapsed time in real life situations.



After this activity, we looked at word problems. We looked at what the word problem is telling us and what we need to find out. We separated this information into three sections: What we know/have, What we need and showing our work. We practiced this method on the board together.

Inquiry into Art: We did an art activity involving colour and variety. It is a surprise for Valentine's Day.

Recess/Lunch

UOI: We took what we learned from earlier today and used the Chromebooks to explore 6 communities. We looked at how they are the same and different across Ontario. We worked on some worksheets, so if they are not complete it was for homework. They also have to create an instasnap for homework based on their communities. Here are some examples they explored:
