Here is what we did today:

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com

Music: Please see Mrs. McMillan's blog for more detail. www.mrsmcmillanmusic.blogspot.com

Inquiry into Language: We worked on Lesson 19 in our spelling notebooks and our spelling sentences. When that was complete, we did a language drill! It's been such a long time! The children thoroughly enjoyed it. After that, we did a creative writing activity. I gave them three words that they had to use in a paragraph. It could be about anything they wanted, there was to be no editing, no stopping... just writing! We created some very funny paragraphs.

Math: Today we worked on telling time. To start off the lesson we played a matching game. The groups had to match the digit time with the analog clock. We earned some house points for doing it correctly and cooperatively.

Then we reviewed that the hour hand is the small one and the big hand is the minute hand. I reminded them that they can use colours to help them distinguish between the two. Next we learned how to know which hour it is. We learned that sometimes the hour hand is not always going to point to directly to the hour so we have to figure out which two hours it is in between. We also talked about time terminology and how we use fractions on a clock. When the minute hand is pointed at the 3 that is quarter past means it is a quarter way through the clock. When the minute hand is pointed at the 6 is is half way through the clock which means it is half past the hour. Finally when the minute hand is pointed at the 9 it is the quarter to THE NEXT HOUR. For example, quarter to 9 is not quite in the hour of 9. So we go to the hour before and that is 8. I know that the minute hand is pointing to the 9 for quarter to so that means it is 8:45.

Our friend, Aryana, came up to the board to teach us a strategy on how to figure out the minutes in an hour. She labeled the clock by 5s starting at 1 and taught them to look at the minute hand to see where it is pointing. From there count up from the nearest multiple of 5.

We watched a video which was a fantastic addition to the lesson. Here is the link:
