Happy Chinese New Year!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com
UOI: We wrapped up our writing unit with a reflection.
Reading Buddies: We went to our friends in Ms. King's class to read today!
Inquiry into Language: Today we practiced our summarizing skills. We did an exercise about summarizing a story called 'Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then'. It is a method to help us determine what information needs to go into the summary. It is a basic organizer in which we can add more information afterwards but this helps us stay on track with some information that is unnecessary. We read a book called "The Fox Factor" and completed the organizer together.
Recess/Lunch
UOI: We began our new UOI unit! We started with watching a video that defined and explained the differences between urban, suburban and rural places. Here is the link to the video:

The students were very excited. We discussed places we know and categorized features of them with the knowledge we gained from that video.
Book Fair: We attended the book fair!
Inquiry into Math: We started the lesson with a review from yesterday's homework. I could see we were having some trouble with quarter past and quarter to. We learned that if it says "past" or "after" the hour does not change. If it says "before" or "to" then the hour has to be one number lower than stated.
Recess/Lunch
Inquiry into Math: Today we learned about estimating time! We looked at activities and with our table groups decided what was the reason amount of time this activity would take. They had a lot of fun with this concept, they chose partners and did a time estimating activity as well. When we are estimating we must remember to include the word "about" to distinguish that it is an estimation. We looked at the start time of an activity and the end time of an activity and learned how to estimate the length of time and then give the exact time.
