Inquiry into Math: Today we learned about how to conduct a survey. We walked through all the steps together and completed an example on the carpet. We spoke about how to create a survey question, the answers to the questions and how to ensure we are collecting data effectively.

Each student created an individual survey question and tally chart with options so that they could survey the Grade 3s. We remembered that it is always important to include "OTHER" as an option for people to choose. Ms. Foti's class joined us for the data collection portion.

Tuesday November 27th, 2018

Here is what we did today:

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com

Inquiry into Language: Today we focused on quotation marks and dialogue tags again. We are really starting to get the hang of it. It is important that we underline or circle the dialogue tag to help us identify who is talking. This has been key for us when practicing placing quotation marks within sentences.

Reading Buddies: We went to visit our friends in Ms. King's class.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: Today we explored DOUBLE BAR GRAPHS! We know that a double bar graph is used to compare data that is similar. We did an example all together on the board. We made sure it included all the important parts. After, we looked at how to describe this graph and how to compare the data. Then, we worked in partners to create our own double bar graphs.
 Things to remember:
- All bars need to be the same distance apart from each other
- All bars need to be the same width (use grid paper to do so)
- The scale is written on the physical line on the side, not in the box
- The categories can be written vertically or horizontally to help you organize your graph
- A label must go on each axes of your graph
- Your title must tell the reader what the data is about
- Your title should sit right above your data-- not a huge space between your bars and the title

- There should be a key to tell the reader what each bar represents

Recess/Lunch

Silent Reading: We did some silent reading independently.

Christmas Concert: We practiced our song today. We really need to practice the lyrics!

Recess/Lunch

UOI: We completed our peer and self-assessment for our summative. We reflected on our actions and our partners contributions to the summatives.

Math: Today we focused on drawing bar graphs. We talked about the important parts of a bar graph and how to draw one. We drew one all together and then we worked independently to practice drawing a bar graph. Once they were successful, the students were able to start their homework.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Language: We did a fun lesson on quotation marks. We used pasta to make our punctuation marks. We did some as a class and then in groups. We loved this activity!
