Here is what we did today:

Music: Please see Ms. McMillian's blog for more detail.

UOI: Today our focus was on people I trust, where are safe places, embracing our differences and our dreams and aspirations. We discussed qualities of someone we trust and what are signs of someone we should not trust. We brainstormed together and then wrote down 3 people we trust. Next, we discussed where are places we feel safe and why we feel safe there. We drew those places in our UOI binders. Our last discussion was about how important it is to have dreams and aspirations. I told them that they have to brainstorm a list of dreams and aspirations on the worksheet to share during our next lesson.

Finally, we participated in an activity to demonstrate how we all have differences and that okay! We did a little speed questions activity. They we placed in partners facing each other, each of them were given a topic (for example: best sport) and they had to discuss what they believed with their partner. We had so much fun discussing all the topics with our partners.

Recess/Lunch

Inquiry into Math: We started our new lesson on Number Patterns. We are really focusing on vocabulary within this unit. The first thing we learned about was term which means number. For example if I am asking "what is the 5th term in the pattern" I am asking what number comes 5th in the pattern.

We learned about Pattern Rules. Pattern rules are the rules that we use to continue the patterns-- what this number pattern increases or decreases by (ex. Start at 2. Add 3 each time).

We are really focusing on the pattern rule formula. It always because with "Start at (the first number in the pattern)." Then it gives you the next step whether it is to add, multiply or subtract and by how much: "Add (the number) each time."

We began exploring the three different types of patterns and were exposed to different scenarios with these. The three patterns we reviewed are growing patterns, shrinking patterns and repeating patters. We learned that:
- Growing patterns GROW--- increase so think adding or multiplication
- Shrinking patterns SHRINK--- decrease so think subtraction
- Repeating patterns REPEATS the CORE -- the part that repeats over and over again

We practiced identifying and continuing these partners as a class and independently.
French: Please see Mme. Rawan's blog for more detail.

Inquiry into Language: We started our science fair project! Our topic is chemical reaction times. We are very excited and completed the questions, hypothesis and background information portion of our science fair booklets.
