Here is what we did today:
UOI: We briefly discussed the upcoming summative task and looked at what a debate looks like.
Inquiry into Language: We completed the reading comprehension portion of our DRAs.
Recess/Lunch
Inquiry into Math: We started our lesson with reviewing converting hours to minutes to days to hours.
We also reviewed that the hour hand is the small one and the big hand is the minute hand. They learned today the difference between an analog clock and a digital clock! We then talked about time terminology and how we use fractions on a clock. When the minute hand is pointed at the 3 that is quarter past means it is a quarter way through the clock. When the minute hand is pointed at the 6 is is half way through the clock which means it is half past the hour. Finally when the minute hand is pointed at the 9 it is the quarter to THE NEXT HOUR. For example, quarter to 9 is not quite in the hour of 9. So we go to the hour before and that is 8. I know that the minute hand is pointing to the 9 for quarter to so that means it is 8:45.
Also, a helpful tip is that if the minute hand is on the "after/past" side then the hour does not change. If the minute hand is on the "to" side then the hour goes back one.
For example: 25 to 2 is the same as 1:35
20 past 3 is the same as 3:20
We worked on our workbooks and two worksheets, anything not completed was for homework.
