Math:. Today we continued to talk about equations involving
addition and expanded on equations involving subtraction. Next, we did some
examples together involving two math problems on either side. It is important
that children are showing their work underneath the question.
Rule of thumb:
If you have a little number and the answer you ADD!
___- 2 =15
15+2 =17
SO
17-2=15
If you have a big number and the answer you
SUBTRACT!
17- _____=15
17-15=2
SO
17-2=15
When dealing with a question asks "Are these sums equal". First figure
out what the answer to both questions are. Next we have to determine if
they are equal. Next decide which one you are going to make it equal to.
Then determine how to make it equal using the rules of thumb.
Example:
13 - 5 and 15 – 4
8 11
Example:
13 - 5 and 15 – 4
8 11
They are not equal.
13 - 5
= 15 – 7
If
you need to rewrite the question to see both sides that is okay too. So
you know that you have to make the answers to equal 8 so you can write the
question again to make it easier.
15-
_______= 8
You
know that you have the big number and the answer so you subtract.
15 - 8=7
Please make sure they are following these examples properly as it will help them understand properly.
Whatever
questions from the worksheets that were not completed in class, were assigned
for homework.

see Mr. Beresford's blog for more information.
UOI/Language: Today we reviewed what we now know about persuasive speeches. The acronyms to remember the structure for a persuasive speech is OREO. Opinion, reason, evidence and opinion. The reason and evidence are repeated three times for three reasons (opinion 1. reason, evidence 2. reason, evidence 3. reason, evidence and restate the opinion). We spoke about target audiences and how they influence our writing. We would write a letter to a teacher with the same words or phrases as we would write a letter to our friends. We began writing an OREO for the topic of uniforms in our schools. If anyone did not complete it, it was assigned for homework.

UOI: We reviewed the different advertising techniques used in digital
and print advertisement. We also reviewed different colours and what they
represent in advertising. We completed created a Success Criteria for making an
advertisement. As a class, we created an advertisement for our made up company “Master
Pets!” This is practice for tomorrow when they have to do it themselves. The
success criteria is:
- 2-3 ad techniques (no more than 4)
- Purpose of the ad is stated
- Company name
- Logo
- Slogan
