Here is what we did today:
Math: So some of the children were very confused about the math last night so we took today to go over the concepts again. Here are the main sections that they are confused about.
Number pattern: Simply state the numbers in the pattern in order. For example: 3,6, 9,12, 15, etc
Pattern rule: This states how to recreate the pattern. For example: Start at 3 count on by 3
Position pattern: Always start with the first number in the pattern. Find the diagonal pattern. Now you need to figure out how you get from one number to the next number in the diagonal pattern. For example: How you get from 3 to the next number in the diagonal pattern which is 12 "Start at 3 go 1 down 1 left". How you get from 6 to the next number in the diagonal pattern which is 15 you go one down and one left.
Pattern rule and position pattern are needed together. The pattern rule tells us to go every third box. Along with the position pattern we can complete the hundreds chart pattern easier. They must go together. You need the pattern rule in order to understand the position pattern.

UOI/Language: Today we reviewed what a comma is and the uses of a comma in writing. We practiced using commas with noodles! We worked with a partner and solved all the sentences around the room! The students had to place the noodle in the correct spot where the comma would be.
Recess/Lunch
UOI: Today we learned about logos and
slogans! We learned what each mean and the purpose of them in advertisements
and media. We did a logo challenge, where the students had 2 minutes
independently to fill in how many logos they recognized and then 3 minutes to
work on it with a partner. I was surprised to find out that they knew every
single logo! We also did a slogan challenge, the students had to match the
slogan with the brand. This one a little trickier! Did you know that Apple’s
slogan is “Think Different” ? After these two challenges as a class we created
a company, a product, a target audience and a logo. We brainstormed different
ideas and I drew out their suggestions. We created King Woof Woof but realized
that it did not follow the criteria of a logo from on anchor chart. We designed
another logo and agreed that it was more effective.

Dear Miss. Chiappetta, I do not believe that Mr. Oliver has a blog. In addition, Mr. Beresford and Mme. Stella have not updated their blogs since their beginning of year introductions. Should we be expecting regular updates on their blogs or will you be commenting on their behalves?
