UOI/Language: Students were given some time to working on their spelling lesson 5. After, the students practiced finding adjectives within sentences. We discussed how they describe the nouns and how they improve our writing. We completed the lesson with an adjective worksheet. They had to underline the adjective and write the noun on the sentence that the adjective was describing.
Daily Five: Students
were given this time to play apples to apples! Each pair had 6
words and I showed them a picture and they had to see if they had a word that
described the picture. Also during this time, the students were given 10 minutes
to complete their Mad Minutes Mental Math sheet. This is to practice our
addition and subtraction mental math skills.
Math:. Today
we learned about estimation! There are two ways to estimate.
1. Nearest 100: This is rounding to the nearest 100. This type makes sense to use when the numbers are going to be rounded up.
1. Nearest 100: This is rounding to the nearest 100. This type makes sense to use when the numbers are going to be rounded up.
2. Front-End Estimation: With this type you forget the other
numbers but the first number. For example, 378 is rounded to 300 when using
this type. This type makes sense when rounding down.
**Exception: When a two digit number is involved you round
both numbers to the nearest 10!!
We took a shopping trip around the classroom to practice our
estimation skills. There was a variety of items all around the class with
different prices tags on them. The students had to make three shopping trips
and figure out about how much money they would be spending during those trips.
We did some questions on the board and then they did some textbook work.
UOI: They
finished off their advertisement. If it was not finished it is homework.
