International Day: We presented our research to the class.

Math: Today we reviewed rounding to ten and hundreds. We started with reviewing rounding’s two main golden rules:

4 or lower round down

5 or higher round up

We took up yesterday’s homework and made the corrections necessary. We began learning about rounding to the nearest 1000.

When rounding to the nearest thousand you first look at the hundreds column. Decide if we are rounding up or down? Look at the rounding rollercoaster for help.
2971 ---- We are rounding up!

Next look at the thousands column. What are we rounding to?
·      If we are rounding up the thousands column is going to go by one
                  2798
à 3000
·      If we are rounding down the thousands is going to stay the same
                  2221
à 2000
                  9076
à 9000
·      If the number is a multiple of 1000 then it stays the same!
                  2000
à 2000

We practiced many examples and the students all took home helpful hints and number lines home to help with their homework!
