Language: Today we summarized a story "The Little Red Riding Hood" using the 'somebody, wanted, but, so then' organizer. Using the organizer we will create our summary. This will be due on Thursday.


Recess/Lunch

Math: Today we explored different subtraction strategies! We learned about doubles, near doubles and sums of ten (make 10). 

Doubles: Think about our doubles that we know because of addition.

Ex. 10 - 5 = 

We know 5 + 5 = 10 soooo if we take the + sign and one 5 to the "dark side" (the other side of the equal sign) we get the answer! 10 - 5 = 5

Near Doubles: Not quite a double but close! We use our knowledge of doubles to help us solve these!

Ex. 13 - 6 =  

We know 6 + 6 = 12
We also know 13 is only 1 away from 12 sooo we write 13 - 12 = 1
so if we add 6 + 1 together it will give us 7 which is the sum of 13 - 6 = 7 !!

Make Tens (Sums of 10):

15 - 8 =

We like the number 10... so we are going to turn the number 8 to ten sooo we add! 8 + 2 = 10
 Then we look at the number 15... we start with 10 and add to missing number so 10 + 5 = 15....
Then we add the ones! 5 + 2 = 7  that means 7 is the sum of 15 - 8 = 7

We checked our work with making tallies, counting up and counting back.
