Here is what we did today:
We had an assembly in the morning for Orange Shirt Day!
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com
Language: We completed our last chapter of our novel study! We completely loved the ending of the story and how now will never be the past. We made many connections to what we have been learning during our UOI unit.
Library: We had a lovely time in the library with Ms. Hayward learning about book care.
Spelling Test: We completed our Lesson 3 Spelling Test
Recess/Lunch
Math:Today we focused on working on our math review. I worked closely with many students on the carpet to complete the review. We focused on the different strategies they could use for addition and subtraction questions.
UOI: Our focus today was on Residential schools and how the Indigenous people were treated. Ms. Foti's class joined us for a read aloud of the book "Stolen Words." This book made us think and make connections to how the Indigenous children and families felt. After the read aloud, the students were tasked with coming up with a question that they would like to ask an individual from a Residential school if they had the opportunity to interview them. They developed many wonders about the school itself, what it they could have possibly felt, how or why their families sent them there and what it felt like being away from their families.
Recess/Lunch
We had a fire drill which was very successful. Great Job Grade 3s!
Orange Shirt Day Activity: We decorated orange strips of paper to add to the paper chain Ms. Hayward was creating. Each strip of paper had the slogan "Every Child Matters."

Music: Please see Mr. Flower's blog for more detail. https://flowermusicsja.blogspot.com
TERRY FOX RUN!
Action Stars:
Honor and Isabella put on a Pioneer play for us to enjoy. Such great displays of ACTION!
Recess/Lunch
Math:To review some concepts we have learned recently did played another version of "SCOOT." We thoroughly enjoyed playing the subtraction edition today. Their math review was sent home today; it does not need to be completed all in one night. We will be working on it tomorrow in class.
Language: Today discussed how machines have changed because of chapter called "The Wonderful Machine." We made many connections to how things have changed and how eight horse powered machine really meant powered by eight horses.
Recess/Lunch
UOI: We did a mini review using chart paper and group collaboration. Around the classroom we had 4 pieces of chart paper, each with their own topic. When told to move to the next sheet, the groups moved to add information about the topic at the top of that sheet. In order to do so they had to read what was already written, then add new information they knew. The topics were Pioneer Homes, food, hunting and trading. They all worked very well together communicating their ideas.
Then we were joined by Ms. Foti's class for a read aloud of the book called "When I was Eight." This is based on the true story of the treatment a little girl received when she attended a Residential school.

Here is what we did today:
French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com
Language: Today we the Grade 3s completed their third Language Drill! We continued our Novel Study, "The Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Once, we completed the chapter Summertime and Harvest the students had time to work on the comprehension worksheets. We thought the chapter Harvest was hilarious! Especially because of Charley and the bees!!
Reading Buddies: We visited Ms. King's class today for reading buddies.
Recess/Lunch
Math: We reviewed the concepts from yesterday to start our lesson. Then, we began to talk about our favourite method of subtracting.... PLACE VALUE!!!
We discussed why it is important to line up the numbers and why we should include the math symbols in our work. We practiced borrowing from our neighbour on the board together.
Then they had a group activity; in groups they had to solve a word problem I put on the board. They had to make sure to include all the important parts like the math symbol, showing their work and a complete sentence.
We checked if our answer was correct as a class by adding the difference plus the smaller number (the two small numbers). When added together it should give you the bigger number!
UOI: Today we completed a compare and contrast of two topics that we learned about! This was an independent task and they were able to use their duo tangs to help them with their points.
Recess/Lunch
Daily 5: We used this period to catch up on work so we won't have as much homework!
