Here is what we did today:

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail

Language: Today we started our Novel Study! "The Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It is such an amazing book and the kids are already loving it! We read the first chapter of the book. The children began working on a worksheet of how the house is described in chapter one looks like. They took them home to colour them in.

Recess/Lunch

Math:. Today we learned about whole number to 10,00. We created a chart that separates 4-digit numbers by thousands, hundreds, tens and ones! We wrote out the numbers in standard form (just the number itself ex: 1345), base ten name (ex: 1 thousand 3 hundreds 4 tens 5 ones), in words (like you are reading the number out loud ex: one thousand three hundred and forty-five) and expanded form (1000+300+40+5). We did multiple examples on the board and worked on a chart in our duo tangs. All the students seemed to really be grasping this concept and were excited to learn more.

UOI: We welcomed Ms. Foti's class to discuss about how the Pioneers traveled from their home countries to North America. We took a look at the globe and used yarn to outline their journey. We discussed modes of transportation and how much it has changed. Many of us agreed that we definitely could not do a 3 month boat ride! We read a book together about how people traveled through periods of time. We came up with some great questions and connections to the book.

Recess/Lunch

Daily Five: We used this period to practice our cursive and start our Spelling Lesson 1 activities. We could also use this time to work on our Novel Study worksheets and Math worksheets to lessen our homework.

Agenda:

Whatever in class work that was not complete in the allotted 40 minute work periods was assigned for homework.
Just a reminder please do not work ahead in the duo tangs, they are set up with in class work and homework for the upcoming week. Thank you for your cooperation.
