Friday September 28th, 2018

Here is what we did today:

We had an assembly in the morning for Orange Shirt Day!

French: Please see Mme. Stella's blog for more detail. https://stjudesfrench-stella.blogspot.com

Language: We completed our last chapter of our novel study! We completely loved the ending of the story and how now will never be the past. We made many connections to what we have been learning during our UOI unit.

Library: We had a lovely time in the library with Ms. Hayward learning about book care.

Spelling Test: We completed our Lesson 3 Spelling Test

Recess/Lunch

Math:Today we focused on working on our math review. I worked closely with many students on the carpet to complete the review. We focused on the different strategies they could use for addition and subtraction questions.

UOI: Our focus today was on Residential schools and how the Indigenous people were treated. Ms. Foti's class joined us for a read aloud of the book "Stolen Words." This book made us think and make connections to how the Indigenous children and families felt. After the read aloud, the students were tasked with coming up with a question that they would like to ask an individual from a Residential school if they had the opportunity to interview them. They developed many wonders about the school itself, what it they could have possibly felt, how or why their families sent them there and what it felt like being away from their families.

Recess/Lunch

We had a fire drill which was very successful. Great Job Grade 3s!

Orange Shirt Day Activity: We decorated orange strips of paper to add to the paper chain Ms. Hayward was creating. Each strip of paper had the slogan "Every Child Matters."
