Language: Today we the Grade 3s completed their second Language Drill! We love the count down! We continued our Novel Study, "The Little House in the Big Woods" by Laura Ingalls Wilder. We will continue our chapter tomorrow.

Recess/Lunch

Math:. To start our lesson, we reviewed how to subtract using Friendly numbers. We did both methods on the board together. To add on to our lesson, we learned how to "Count Up" or "Adding on" to subtract. This was a review of what we learned last year. To use this method we start with the lower number in the math equation and add on the hundreds to get closer to the bigger number. Once we can't add any more hundreds you add the tens and then the ones.

Remember to check your answers you can do place value subtraction!!

We had 40 minutes in class to work on the worksheet so whatever was left was for homework.

UOI:  Today we focused on how the Native People helped the Pioneers. We reading through an article and realized that the Pioneers probably wouldn't have been able to survive without the kindness and assistance from the Native people. We discussed how the Natives cherished the land and how every living and non-living thing on the Earth was sacred to them. Then we compared it to the Pioneer's view and how the Pioneers treated the Natives and the land. We began to make connections about how that must have felt and how unkind those actions were. We read a beautiful poetic picture book about the views of the Indigenous people and how they felt when the settlers came. It was a very emotional conversation and we made many lovely connection.
